My practice is based on my desire to connect with others and help them create better lives for themselves. The philosophy that guides my practice is that all people have the capacity for personal growth and healing.
It is common for people to want to better their lives, but they are unsure how to accomplish this endeavor. Oftentimes people try numerous strategies with varying degrees of success, but end up finding themselves feeling frustrated and alone.
I work collaboratively with people, helping them develop the courage and insight necessary to discover their own path to healing. I believe that, through this process, therapy tends to be a very positive and rewarding experience for my clients.
I have gained extensive experience by treating persons in numerous settings, such as the following:
20 plus years working In and Out-Patient Psychological Treatment Centers
Treating persons with various addictions; including drug, alcohol, food, and sex addictions
Teaching undergraduate and graduate college level courses
Working with adolescents in a wilderness therapy program
Helping couples and families reconnect
Facilitating many therapeutic groups and psychoeducational workshops
Areas of specialization

I am “fee for service” provider and expect full payment at time of service. However, depending on your out-of-network insurance coverage, you may be able to receive some reimbursement for your counseling sessions. I am more than happy to have my billing manager submit your claims to your insurance company as an out-of-network therapy provider to help reduce your costs. If you would like this service, my billing manager will submit all of your sessions to your insurance company for you. Your insurance company will mail you a check for any portion of our counseling sessions that are covered by your plan. As far as payment goes, I only accept payment at time of service in the form of cash, check, or HSA cards.
I reserve a limited number of appointments for reduced-fee clients, and I will do my best to work out something or refer you to someone who can help you.
In reciprocation for the reduction in fees, I require will the person to take on a significant growth or learning challenge between each session and that he/she will donate/pay forward a specified amount of time to a volunteer organization or good cause that David Cummins and he/she agrees upon.
I typically see clients Monday through Thursday between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
